Rockstar Games has officially opened preorders for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), marking one of the biggest milestones ahead of the game's highly anticipated launch later this year.
Starting on 25 June 2026, players can preorder GTA 6 digitally through the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store. The game is available in multiple editions, including a Standard Edition and an Ultimate Edition featuring exclusive in-game vehicles, weapons, cosmetic items, and additional digital bonuses. Every preorder also includes the Vintage Vice City Pack, a bonus inspired by the series' iconic 1980s setting.
One of the biggest surprises is Rockstar's distribution strategy. Although physical boxed copies are being sold at retailers, they do not contain a game disc. Instead, each box includes a download code that redeems the digital version. The decision is intended to simplify global distribution and reduce the risk of leaks before launch, but it has also sparked debate among collectors who prefer physical media.
Industry analysts expect GTA 6 to become one of the largest entertainment launches in history. Forecasts suggest the game could generate around $1 billion in preorder revenue alone and sell tens of millions of copies during its first year. The enormous anticipation has already influenced other publishers, many of whom have adjusted their release schedules to avoid competing directly with Rockstar's blockbuster.
The preorder launch also reflects how game distribution continues shifting toward digital delivery. While boxed editions remain available, download-based releases have become the standard for many major AAA titles, offering faster updates and reducing manufacturing costs.
With only a few months remaining before release, GTA 6 continues to dominate conversations across the gaming industry. From preorder demand to hardware upgrades and retailer promotions, the game's impact is already being felt well before players can explore Vice City once again.
If preorder numbers meet expectations, GTA 6 may not only become Rockstar's biggest launch ever but also set a new benchmark for the modern video game industry.
